Pioneer DV717 Transport noise

Hi
I've had my DV717 for over 7 years and I think it might be time to retire the old soldier. I was watching a rental DVD last night and the noise from the transport was more than noticible, to the extent that I stopped watching the movie. I've got a Tosh SD330 as my multiregion player and watched the rest of the film on that.
The transport on the 717 is fairly loud with CDs too. Does anyone have any thoughts on replacing the drive mechanism, or is it worth just going for a new machine, and if so any reccomendations for my system?

Thanks

Gareth

retire the old thing. I had a 717 and it only lasted a year...yours has done well to last aslong as it has.

Other than that theres usually a few on ebay going cheap...usually for spares so you may get lucky
