Raised an issue with my friends at Philips regarding playing DVD based MP3's - the player will play the first track and then stop. You either have to select the next track or press play again - all very annoying:mad:
Anyways having pestered them for the last 2 weeks they are sending me out an upgrade disc (allegedly in the next 7 days) which will cure the problem (allegedly) and make the player more DVD friendly..... whatever that means
So if you have found the same issues as I....the website is due a support update for the 9000 according to the tech support guy- keep em peeled
also have the same problem with my DVP 9000s. in addition, when playing DVDs, the machine sends an excrutiating sound thru the speakers if I pause or stop it and then press play again. the sound is a sort of a crack and hiss. it also emanates from the speakers at the beginning of every new chapter of a movie. what should I do?
I agree this machine is not at it`s best with mp3, but I haven`t encountered the kind of sound you are describing. which firmware version you have?

I eventually returned mine after weeks of faffing around with Philips not capable of support department........their final statement to me was that the player is incapable of playing dvd mp3's and to return the player to my retailer for a full refund.
seems that the old 47 firmware with which it came was better for mp3. but otherwise I am satisfied with it, very much so. good picture and sound. dvd-r and +r are very well read. strange the issue with mp3. not sure I would ever ask for a refund as in that price range are almost no other players around.
