I have seen a few people on here with this player.
Can anyone recommend them ?
I had thought about the Denon 1730 or 1930 but have been put off by the issues people have been having.
Thanks.

Hi Roset3,
I had the Denon 1930 but due to LS issues, I managed (finally) to replace it with the Pioneer 696AV-S. My initial impressions are that the pioneer is a fantastic machine for the money, although I am waiting for the return of my Sanyo Z3 projector. I will then put it through its paces and will do a mini review of this machine, hopefully this week coming.
As said, looks good for the money and a great purchase before HD settles down.
Ruk

Read this thread (http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=365162). I like my 696 lots.

if you are connecting via component, i can say with all honesty that the pioneer 490 AND 696 suck at sd deinterlacing. expect jaggies and visible lines(i have tried 2 different 696's) hdmi is probably different, but avoid component at all costs, unless you have a crt tv then the interlacing artefacts wont even be visible to you as crt's are interlaced by standard.
Have bought the 1730, no lyp sync issues unlike the 1930 of what i have read. Picture is suberb through component. Cant comment on the HDMI as my tv doesnt have this input

1. Upscaled picture quality is decent but not of reference quality.
2. Resume function is damn good.
3. Setup menus are quite intuitive and full featured.
4. Very sleek.
5. Tray and build looks flimsy but doesn't bother the average consumer.
6. Zoom function is horrible.
7. No Lip Sync Issues.
8. Jaggies noticeable when upscaled. The screen seems to refresh causing jerks which is however very hard to notice.
9. Upscaling obviously shrinks the picture and introduces more black bars.
10. Takes more than usual time to Boot and Load disc.

thanks for your replies.
I'm still tempted by the Denon 1730 as it will go with the denon amp i have on the way.
Anyone got any other experiences of it ?

had thought about it. Not sure how easy they are to get hold of and what the quality is like. At the moment I have a normal CRT, in time going to be upgrading to HD LCD.
Going to be running off an RGB only SCART. Do they have this capability ?

Hi Roset.
I've got a 1930 hooked up to a Denon 3803 and HDMI to Viera plasma.
All works a treat and can honestly say I've had no issues what so ever.
