Connection confusion

If I buy a HD ready TV , what sort of dvd player would I need to show the best quality picture. If I used my spare Toshiba 330 hooked up via component would this be equal to say using a Tosh 350/Samsung 850/950 through component. Or does connecting them players through their HDMI output give them a higher quality picture than component, in other words do I need to use component or HDMI connection for the best, hope that makes sense. Should I change my DVD player or is my 330 fine? Bl**dy H*ll Im confused, thanks to anyone who can work out what Im asking! Baz
