Best DVD player for old fashioned chap

Hi,

I know that "Which DVD player should I buy" threads are a bit dull and I have spent a lot of time searching the forum. I think my question is just specialised enough to be worth asking.

I have an infocus X1 which won't accept digital signals of any sort and only has SVGA definition. It accepts interlaced or progressive analogue component signals (with the right adaptors which I have/can get). It has a faroudja de-interlacing chip which is reckoned to be rather good.

I listen through my Naim hifi which is analogue stereo.

I'm not likely to change the projector or the hifi any time soon. Given my rather antiquated set-up what secondhand DVD player should I be looking for? Sound is very important to me. At the moment I have an LP 12 - which sounds great - and a budget Toshiba DVD player which doesn't, so the new DVD player will almost certainly be my best CD source for the time being as well.

What secondhand DVD player should I look out for? Arcam DV78/88? Denon 2910/3910?

I'd be grateful for your thoughts.

Thanks a lot,

David

Hi There,

Is everyone just fed up talking about these Players or is it just that analogue stereo and svga displays are so outmoded that you all have no opinion?

Help much appreciated,

David

Hi,

You've answered your own question. Each of those would be superb new.

Thanks,

I suppose you can only go so far without actually seeing and listening to these things and I've probably reached that point.

I'll see which one turns up at the right price.

All the best,

David

David the Arcams are highly rated, Denon wise the Denon A1 & 2900 are highly regarded, I notice you have a LP12 & a Naim system, why not consider a Naim DVD 5, you'll get stunning performance visually - sonically and it will match your Nain amps, second hand wise I would point you in the direction of a Toshiba SD-9500 (rarer than rocking horse plops) I own a Valhalla/Akito/Shure V15 III and my Toshiba sounds superb for stereo use. Be that CD, HDCD, DVD-V or DVD-A.

Thanks,

I'd like a dvd5 but It's out of the question at the moment. I'll look out for the toshiba you mention if it turns up secondhand.

All the best,

david
