I have just got an Oppo 971H after reading all the good things about. My problem is understanding how to connect it into my system. I use a Z200 pj that runs through a Yamaha RX-V730 AV receiver that has no DVI/HDMI connectors, only component. I can connect the Z200 and the Oppo via a DVI cable. Which would be the best way to incorporate the AV receiver into the equation without loss of quality. I shall use an optical audio connection.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm new to this so I would appreciate a reply. I tried searching but couldn't find anything to help.
Many thanks.

Sorry, John...I have no answer (I too am a bit green)...just a question...the DVI cable..thats the same as a PC's DV connector, say for a monitor?
The reason I ask is I'm interested in the oppo, but I really wanted HDMI to connect to my TV (or receiver) and I believe DV can be converted to HDMI using a cable? I'm right in saying the 971 doesnt have HDMI....
I believe component is slightly > optical, btw for quality.

Simple really
Run the DVI from Oppo to the projector
Run Optical from Oppo to receiver.
DVI is much better than Component (on the oppo)

The Oppo 971 has a DVI output. But should come with a DVI to HDMI cable.
Then run optical out to your av receiver for sound. Or analog out to your TV

loz, thank you for this. You confirmed my suspicions. I run everything through the AV receiver and pj including my cable box. I've got used to switching between inputs on the receiver and your arrangement should permit the same.
From what I've read the Oppo only upscales with DVI and not component. So, in that case, Smurkenstein, DVI is best. But yes, my flat PC monitors do come with DVI connectors. But loz is correct on your connections also.
Sigh, it gets complex sometimes and it's good to have someone say no, it can be simple really.....:smashin: :smashin:
