Samsung DVD850 - Coaxial Delay?

I'm hoping someone can help with a frustrating and possibly obvious problem (although not to me!).

I have the DVD-HD850 player and have it linked to my Acoustic Solutions Surround Sound via Coaxial. I have the XBox 360 to the same Surround Sound via Optical - the 360 is absolutely fine, no problems at all.

However there is a distinguishable 2-3 second delay when selecting a new music track on a CD, or a new episode on DVD (or on a quiz DVD where you're effectively selecting a new episode with every answer, etc).

I don't know if there is something in the menus that I'm missing, or whether I should really be running this through an Optical splitter with the 360 - any ideas?
