Hi all, I have these two bits of kit connected via HDMI, with the DVD outputting 720p. A lot of my DVD's are showing with thick black lines at the top and bottom of the screen, but not all. I realise that the Aspect ratio of the DVD disc makes the most difference, but is there any way in which the player or TV can always display all DVD's at the native resolution of the TV (1024 x 768) ???
PS I have not tried a component or any other connection yet
Thanks in advance :)

Only using the tv zoom function, but then you may still have some black bar visible depending on the ratio of the source material.
Either way, why would you want to??
You'll either be stretching the image or losing some picture. Dont you want to see the movie in the intended Aspect Ratio?

Yes, but I would like to also be able to use the whole of the screen, I thought that's what scaling was intended for!!??
Cheers!

But it doesn't show them in the wrong aspect ratio.
It may scale them, but it doesn't crop them or stretch them just to totally fill your screen.
The only way to avoid this is to zoom them in, but frankly that rather destroys the purpose of having high res, high quality equipment in the first place!
If it was filmed in 2.35:1, then watch it in 2.35:1. That is what the director intended.

The TV is already scaling to 768 (it scales the 720 input to 768). The borders of a 2.35:1 (or wider) picture is part of the 768.
